Musings on life and motherhood

Last nights bedtime routine was the same as always, Kris changed River’s diaper and brought him up to bed with me.  Everything seemed normal as we settled down for sleep.  As usual, River woke up hungry 3 hours later and as I picked him up to switch sides I noticed that the bed was wet where he had been sleeping.  I didn’t think much of it, I figured his diaper just leaked so I continued on with breastfeeding.  All of the sudden, I felt warm liquid hitting my thigh and it was then that I realized we had a major diaper situation.

My side of the bed was completely soaked in piss and I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why. River was indeed wearing a diaper and they never usually leak so I figured there must be some sort of diaper malfunction.  As I inspected the diaper I realized that Kris had twisted the diaper as he was putting it on, the inside was on the outside and the outside was on the inside.  All this adding up to absolutely no absorbency and zero leakage protection.

To say that I was pissed (see me being funny!) would be an understatement.  The mattress, sheets and blanket were all soaking wet with urine and I was positively livid with Kris.  While I knew that all the bedding needed changed and the mattress needed cleaned, I also knew that if I got River out of bed to do all of this he would then be awake for at least an hour and damn it I was tired. So I went and got a towel and tried to soak up the majority of the pee but when I laid down the bedding was just wet, no way to get around it and I laid there seething with anger, huffing and puffing as Kris laid next to me peacefully asleep.  Finally I just started bitching, loudly, about the how unfair it was that I had to sleep in a piss soaked bed because he couldn’t put a diaper on correctly.

Kris ended up sleeping on the couch and my bed still needs cleaned.  But I sit before you, the newly anointed “Queen of Piss”.

Husbands are annoying. I hate it when they’re asleep and you’re up doing stuff you don’t want to do.

We had a similar diaper event recently. I put a diaper on wrong and she peed on my grandparents’ carpet. Not as annoying as a bed though when you want to sleep!

You’ll have to tell more about co sleeping. So you have to go to bed at the same time as the baby or what?

    Oh, so sorry.

They sell mattress pads that are about the size of a twin bed, or you can cut them to size, that will absorb like 10 times their weight in water (or piss- and they are super thin- you don’t even know they are there!) After having WAY to many episodes like you just described, they were the best money I spent. I just put them under my sheet, and then if Cole has a pee accident, or even throws up, you just have to wash the sheet and the pad, and your mattress is protected. :-)

Ryan also has one on TOP of his sheet, since every now and then he’ll have an accident at night, while potty training. So easy to toss that in the laundry, get out a new one, and he is back to sleep, w/o having to change the sheets and clean his mattress.

knowing a male he probably thought you were totally over-reacting… I say you go girl… you should of just made him switch sides and pulled river over slowly… made him sleep in piss ;)

Eva, we usually get River to sleep around 7:30 and put him down in his old infant carseat. He sleeps there until he wakes up, usually around 10:00, and then he comes to bed with me. I really need to get him to sleep someplace besides our bed or his old carseat though.

That’s so funny, that I just had to read it aloud to my husband & he laughed too.

Sorry we’re laughing at you. It’s just that it totally seems like something MY husband would have done (even he agreed with that statement!)

….I bet Kris has some laundry to do!

Reading this I was positive you were about to say that you had pissed yourself.
