Last night was fun and a little surprising. River absolutely loved trick or treating, so much so that he had an absolute fit when I tried to bring him back to our house. I had no idea he would like it so much, I was actually worried that some of the costumes might scare him. Quite the opposite, he found everything very interesting and wasn’t scared once.
I had two moments last night where I realized something about myself. The first of them was when I was handing out candy there was a fairly large group of boys around 10 or so (I’m terrible at determining age) that came to our house trick or treating. It was towards the end of the night and I’m not sure if other houses started handing out more candy or what but they were being rambunctious and loud. After I gave them their candy they kept asking for more and then they started listing off all the reason that they should get more candy. One boy stated that he should get an extra piece because his dad played 4 years on the Ohio State varsity football team. Little did he know I hate football and that was an extra strike against him for being such a braggart. Anyhow, they kept getting louder and louder and started inching closer to me in their attempts to get candy and I went all old lady on them! I said “Okay boys, that is quite enough!” in my most authoritative and motherly voice. Now I know that doesn’t sound like much but I felt like such an old lady having to tell the youngin’s to simmer down. I have to admit that it came quite naturally to me.
The second thing I discovered was that I need to lose about 5-10 lbs. In the process of trying to get a good pictures of River (he was in no mood to pose for the camera as he had bigger and better things to do, like fall off the porch and pick up leaves) Kris took numerous pictures of me, from ALL sorts of different angles. After reviewing those pictures at the end of the night not only was I mortified at what I saw but I had a renewed determination. And no, I will not be posting ANY of those terribly unflattering pictures of myself on here. Nope, only nice, flattering pictures will ever see the light of day on this blog. So without further ado…

Aww, you all look great!
I would be uncomfortable with boys intimidating me like that. Ick. Even tweens. Glad you got them to cut it out!
yeah I had the same thought when I reviewed the pictures Karl took… yuck! Plus my sweater was one of those wrap ones so it made me look HUGE!
I think we should forbid our husbands from taking our picture. I don’t know why but his pictures always either make me look bad, are poorly lit, or blurry.
Babito was the same way, and I was really surprised as well. I’m glad you had a great Halloween.
Well I think you all look cute!
I dread that tween to teen years…
